‘Vas-Peritonitis’—Stephen Vas: A Pioneer in CAPD Peritonitis, 1926–2006

More than 20 years ago, Stephen and I attended a meeting of the International Society of Nephrology. After an evening event, we went to our hotel where, on entering the elevator, we were joined by two Japanese nephrologists and their spouses. As we were ascending, one of them looked discreetly at my badge, with no reaction; he then looked at Stephen's badge. It was like a ‘moment of discovery’ when he said to his colleague: ‘Vas-Peritonitis’.
