Obituary

A tribute to Belding H. Scribner

In addition to Chris Blagg's biographic note on the late Belding H. Scribner, the editor of NDT invited two of Scrib's former research fellows from Europe to evoke the time spent in Seattle at the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, University of Washington Medical School during their training period under Dr Scribner's leadership. It is a pleasure for Charles Mion (C.M.) and Bernard Charra (B.C.) to pay Scrib a personal tribute through these reminiscences: both trained in Seattle for 18 months, 10 years apart; both experienced the simple, warm, unconventional and friendly welcome of Dr Scribner; both enjoyed the clarity and strength of his teaching; for both of them, after being a mentor, Scrib had become a close friend.
