Changes to the Editorial Board and the launch of NDTplus
In this issue you will notice that there have been some changes in the Editorial board. As announced in our editorial in the January 2007 issue, the number of submissions to NDT continues to increase with manuscripts being submitted from all over the globe. These articles cover a wide spectrum of topics in nephrology and related specialties and require the availability of broad range of expertise in order to ensure a fair review process.
To achieve this, we felt that we needed to expand our pool of subject editors in order to enable us to distribute the growing volume of submissions amongst a broader range of individuals, whilst keeping their workload within reasonable limits. Fortunately, only a few of our existing subject editors asked to stand down and practically all the individuals that we invited to take on this role have agreed to do so. We would like to extend a warm welcome to these new subject editors who have been chosen from diverse countries in order to reflect the international scope of the Journal.
To keep the total number on the editorial board within reasonable limits, we needed to ask several of our existing members to complete their term of office. It goes without saying that we are very grateful to these outgoing board members for all their hard work. We will continue to call on them to act as reviewers in the future.
With these changes to the editorial board, the instructions to authors have been updated, clarified and rewritten in a more "user-friendly" format.
An important innovation starting this month is the launch of NDTplus, a new supplementary journal to NDT, focusing on postgraduate clinical education and topics of interest to the practicing nephrologist. NDTplus will be published bi-monthly, initially on the web, but with a printed copy distributed with NDT starting from January 2008. NDTplus will publish interesting case reports and letters to the editor (those not related to papers published in NDT) as well as the usual "traditional" educational features including images in nephrology, the nephroquiz and teaching points. Furthermore, we will invite experts to write in-depth clinical reviews for this new journal. The supplements of NDT will also be published in NDTplus.
These changes to the Editorial Board and the introduction of NDTplus have been approved by the ERA/EDTA council and supported by our publisher OUP. Educational features have always been appreciated by our readers and we hope that the introduction of NDTplus, will help to further expand our number of subscribers. As always, we welcome any suggestions you may have for further improvements.
