Report from the editorial office

Renal Division, University Hospital Ghent, De Pintelaan 185 9000 Gent, Belgium

Correspondence and offprint requests to: Norbert Lameire, Renal Division, University Hospital Ghent, De Pintelaan 185 9000 Gent, Belgium. Email: norbert.lameire{at}ugent.be

There are at least two good reasons to write this short report from the editorial office in the January 2006 issue of NDT, so shortly after our editorial in the October 2005 issue. The first is to wish all our readers, reviewers, editorial board members and collaborators a very happy new year and best wishes for 2006. We hope 2006 will be successful for every one of you.

The second reason is to introduce the new cover and the new name of the journal, NDT.

With this new cover we did not want to simply imitate some of our sister nephrology journals but to render the journal a more up-to-date and fresh, modern look. The contents on the front page of each issue have been replaced by a short summary of the "highlights" of each issue.

The selection of these "highlights" made by the editor-in-chief, is very personal, subjective and thus open for criticism.

We hope that with this "new look", NDT will be appreciated by our readers and subscribers. We welcome your opinion.

A more detailed report of our activities over the year 2005 will appear in a forthcoming issue. We are handling now a total of 6–8 manuscripts per working day in our different offices and it is clear to us that NDT is "booming" and becoming a more internationally read journal.

At the end of this issue we take the opportunity to thank our subject and section editors and the long list of reviewers for all their efforts over the last year.

Conflict of interest statement. None declared.
