The Editor-in-chief and Oxford University Press are pleased to announce that NDT now welcomes submissions online.
NDT now receives over 1000 manuscripts a year from all over Europe and the rest of the world. In addition, we use an international team of reviewers to ensure comments of high quality, but we do not want geographical location to cause delays. We know how important speed is to our authors and have searched for the best way to reduce the time the reviewing process takes. The decision to move forward with online manuscript submission and peer review ensures that NDT capitalizes on the opportunities the Internet offers to speed up the evaluation and administrative processes. This will offer many advantages to both authors and reviewers.
For authors the key benefits are speed and simplicity. Authors submitting their manuscripts via the web (http://ndt.manuscriptcentral.com) will receive an automatic e-mail acknowledging receipt of their paper. Once the editors have identified reviewers, the submission will be made available to those selected on a secure website. It is anticipated that this process, which reduces administration and the reliance on postal systems, will greatly help to speed up the time from submission to decision.
Importantly authors do not need new software or a profound knowledge of computers to be able to submit onlinejust save the manuscript as an RTF file and figures in any one of a number of formats (see the website for full details) and then follow the simple instructions.
For reviewers, this system for online submission and peer review offers greater flexibility. Reviewers will be e-mailed initially to ask if they would be prepared to evaluate a manuscript (the abstract of which will be attached to the e-mail) within a given time. If they agree they will be sent a website address, and username and password, which will enable them to access the paper online. Only once they have agreed to review the paper will they be able to access itthus ensuring complete security. Reviewers will therefore be able to evaluate papers anywhere they have access to the Internet, and if they want it in paper form it can easily be printed out.
We hope you agree that this is another important step forward in the development of NDT and that next time you choose to submit a paper to NDT you will visit the website (http://ndt.manuscriptcentral.com) and submit online.
Of course we welcome any comments on this or any other aspect of NDT.
