Mackinnon et al. must recognize that important differences often exist among studies which make comparing results difficult. Our studies [1,2] represent a single academic centre's experience with biopsies being performed by one group while that of Mackinnon et al. [3] represent the combined experience of two independent nephrology programmes. Thus, it would not be surprising that they report a larger sample size.
Differences in complications rate among studies can be difficult to interpret because of confounding issues such as the nature of the study (prospective or retrospective), the type of
