The relevance of pre-eclampsia to the offspring is well recognized. Children born to pre-eclamptic mothers commonly have low birth weight and their risk has been the subject of a vast field of investigations. Oddly, the mother's outcome has attracted less interest. Leon Chesley, the father of modern pre-eclampsia research was of the opinion that once the condition was over, the mothers had no greater risk of adverse long-term outcomes than women without pre-eclampsia from the general population [1].
